Does Helikeep work with your controller?

Helikeep connects to charge controllers via the RS485/Modbus communication port. If your controller has an RJ45 port labelled 'RS485' or 'COM', there's a good chance it works.

Fully Supported

Tested and verified. All registers read correctly, load control works, and battery protection is fully operational.

How to Check Your Controller

Step 1: Find the Communication Port

Look at your charge controller for an RJ45 port (looks like an Ethernet port) labelled 'RS485', 'COM', or 'Communication'. This is NOT the same as a WiFi antenna port or USB port.

Step 2: Check the Protocol

Your controller's manual should mention: Modbus RTU, RS485 communication, or Serial communication via RJ45. If it says 'TTL', 'CAN bus', 'Bluetooth only', or 'WiFi only' — Helikeep won't work with it.

Step 3: Check the Baud Rate

Most budget MPPT controllers use 115200 or 9600 baud rate. Helikeep supports both.

What Helikeep Reads

When connected to a supported controller, Helikeep reads all key metrics.

Solar Panel

PV Voltage (V), PV Current (A), PV Power (W)

Battery

Voltage, Charging Current, Temperature, SOC

Load Output

Voltage, Current, Power, ON/OFF Status

Controller

Temperature, Charging Mode

Energy Counters

Energy Generated Today, Energy Consumed Today (kWh)

Load Control

Turn LOAD output ON/OFF remotely — enables automatic battery protection

What's NOT Compatible

WiFi-Only Controllers

No wired communication interface

Bluetooth-Only Controllers

Different protocol, no RS485

PWM Controllers (most)

Usually no communication port at all

Victron Controllers

Proprietary VE.Direct protocol (not Modbus)

Inverter-Chargers

Different device class — may add support later

Grid-Tied Inverters

Different application entirely

Compatibility FAQ

I have an EPEVER Tracer 1210A (not AN). Will it work?

The 'A' series uses the same Modbus protocol but may have slight register differences. It will likely work, but we haven't fully tested it. Contact us and we'll verify.

Can I use Helikeep with two controllers?

Currently, one Helikeep device connects to one controller. Multi-controller support is on our roadmap.

Do I need the EPEVER eBox or MT50 display?

No. Helikeep replaces both. It provides remote monitoring (like the eBox) and local display (like the MT50), plus battery protection that neither offers.

Can I use a longer cable?

Yes. RS485 supports cable lengths up to 1200 meters. Any standard Cat5e or Cat6 patch cable up to 30 meters will work fine.

Not sure? Ask us.

Tell us your controller model and we'll confirm compatibility.
