Terms of Service

Overview

These terms govern your use of the Helikeep device and cloud service. By using Helikeep, you agree to these terms.

The short version: Use Helikeep responsibly. We provide the service as-is. We’re not liable for battery damage, equipment failure, or electrical issues — Helikeep is a monitoring and protection tool, not a guarantee.

The Service

Helikeep provides:

  1. Hardware — A solar monitoring device that connects to your charge controller
  2. Local web interface — A dashboard accessible on your local network
  3. Cloud dashboard (optional) — Remote monitoring, data history, alerts, and automations

Accounts

  • You must provide a valid email address to create an account
  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure
  • One account per person. Shared access is available through the device sharing feature
  • We may suspend accounts that violate these terms

Free and PRO Plans

Free Plan

  • No payment required
  • Includes all sensor metrics, 30-day data history, battery overnight estimate, and 1 automation rule
  • We may modify free plan features with 30 days’ notice

PRO Plan

  • Billed monthly (€3/month) or annually (€30/year)
  • Payment processed by Stripe
  • You can cancel at any time — service continues until the end of your billing period
  • No refunds for partial billing periods
  • If payment fails, we’ll notify you and give 7 days to update payment before downgrading to Free

Installer Plan

  • Billed per device per month (€2/device/month)
  • Minimum 5 devices
  • Custom terms available for large deployments — contact sales

Hardware

Warranty

  • 2-year warranty from date of purchase covering manufacturing defects
  • Warranty does not cover: damage from incorrect installation, water damage due to improper sealing, electrical damage from incorrect wiring, normal wear and tear

Returns

Electrical Safety

  • Helikeep must be installed according to the included quick start guide
  • Only connect to compatible charge controllers via the provided RJ45 cable
  • Do not modify the device hardware
  • Helikeep is designed for 12V DC systems only
  • Installation must comply with local electrical codes and regulations

Limitation of Liability

Important: Helikeep is a monitoring and protection tool. It is NOT a replacement for proper system design, appropriate fuse protection, or regular maintenance.

We are NOT liable for:

  • Battery damage or degradation (even if battery protection fails to activate)
  • Equipment damage from power cycling (load shedding)
  • Lost food from fridge power cuts
  • Damage from incorrect installation or wiring
  • Damage from using Helikeep with incompatible controllers
  • Data loss (including sensor data deletion after retention period)
  • Service interruptions (including internet outages affecting cloud dashboard)
  • Firmware updates that change device behavior

Maximum liability: The price you paid for the Helikeep device.

Acceptable Use

You may NOT:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the Helikeep cloud service
  • Use the service to monitor systems you don’t own or have permission to access
  • Attempt to access other users’ data
  • Resell cloud service access without an installer agreement
  • Use automated scripts to scrape data from the dashboard (use the API or CSV export instead)

You MAY:

  • Modify the device hardware and firmware (at your own risk — warranty void)
  • Self-host using the open-source firmware (cloud service terms don’t apply)
  • Build integrations using webhooks and the API

Open Source

The Helikeep device firmware is open-source. The firmware license is separate from these terms and can be found in the firmware repository.

The cloud dashboard, API, and backend are NOT open-source.

Data and Privacy

Your data is handled according to our Privacy Policy. Key points:

  • We don’t sell your data
  • Data stored in EU (Germany)
  • You can delete your account and data at any time

Service Availability

  • We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uptime
  • Planned maintenance will be announced at least 24 hours in advance
  • The local web interface and battery protection work independently of the cloud service
  • We reserve the right to discontinue the free tier with 90 days’ notice

Changes to Terms

We’ll notify you by email at least 30 days before significant changes take effect. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Romania. Disputes will be resolved in Romanian courts, unless EU consumer protection law requires otherwise.
